Anybody fancy learning ballet from the teacher to Her Majesty The Queen?

Well, now you can, either with NCAD or online.

The Royal Academy of Dance has filmed some lessons with 'Miss Sarah' for you to do at home in your leisure, available through their website. Why not get in touch to find out about our provision here, for Sarah's Silver Swans and more!

Sarah Platt, PGDT (Dance), BPhil (Hons), RAD RTS, FIDTA, Dance Ex Dip, Anat Dip.

Sarah began dancing in the West Midlands, achieving some IDTA teaching qualifications before leaving to undertake Teacher Training at the Royal Academy of Dance (RAD). Sarah now has a wide range of practical and academic qualifications in all theatre dance subjects, and takes great pleasure in teaching, encouraging and mentoring like-minded dancers of all ages and abilities, from tiny tots up to 90-something years!  Having just celebrated the 25th year of NCAD, Sarah is extremely proud of and deeply attached to everybody who has been part of the NCAD family. It is an absolute privilege to be the principal of such a dedicated, supportive and talented team of staff.

Alongside running and teaching classes at North Cheam Academy of Dance, Sarah works in Primary Schools to develop their dance provision, working with both the children and staff, and with trainee Primary School teachers at Kingston University. She is proud to be a Mentor and Practical Teaching Supervisor for the RAD, guiding and assessing trainee ballet teachers around the UK, as well as delivering other dance teacher training sessions and workshops.

Another aspect to her work is teaching various groups of older learners, delivering ‘Dance for Lifelong Wellbeing’ as instigated by a government-funded community research project, through the RAD. This includes classical ballet based work: instigating the ‘Silver Swans’ program, training RAD teachers for CPD and delivering the Silver Swans classes at RAD HQ.  She also enjoys leading both chair-based and standing dance exercise for programmes for various senior citizen groups and the Alzheimer’s Society. Sarah organises Surrey Dance Festival every summer and enjoys getting involved with choreographing for Amateur Dramatics Companies in her spare time. Sarah remains very appreciative of the opportunities to enjoy teaching in such a wide range of contexts, and hugely grateful to her family for being supportive and embracing the life - both children perform and husband edits the music and takes photographs... thanks guys!

Katie Pipkin: BA (Hons) Ballet Education, ARAD, AIDTA, RAD RTS

Having joined NCAD at the age of three Katie is delighted to be teaching and choreographing for the show. Having grown up in the NCAD family Katie attended a variety of classes including ballet, tap, modern and freestyle but found her passion lay with ballet. She completed her GCSE dance with NCAD and then attended the Royal Academy of Dance for her A Level Dance Studies and followed on to graduate from the BA (Hons) Ballet Education program from the RAD – University of Surrey in summer 2014.

Since graduating Katie has been working at dance schools across London teaching a variety of dance styles from the RAD ballet syllabus to tap, modern and contemporary dance. This has led to her choreographing for a number of charity performances including the Young Performers at Her Majesty’s Theatre London. Katie is also one of the course tutors for the A2 Dance program at the Royal Academy of Dance preparing students for their theory exams and solo performances. Over the last four years Katie has been teaching the GCSE Dance program for NCAD and would like to congratulate all students on their hard work so far and wishes them the best of luck for their final results later on this summer.

Katie is looking forward to seeing all the hard work the students and teachers have put in and wishes everyone a brilliant show.

She has always been committed to dancing and has passed many dancing exams and in 2002, Kelly went on to train and qualify as a teacher with the IDTA. Kelly works at North Cheam Academy of Dance predominately teaching tap and modern. She also works at Willson Academy of Performing Arts as their tap teacher on a Saturday morning. Kelly’s full time job is a Primary School teacher and is currently in her 6th year of teaching.

Kelly has been choreographing dances for Amateur dramatic / performance groups for the last 16 years, and has organised, promoted and ran the HMOS Summer Workshop for 14 years. She has been performing and dancing in a variety of local shows with a range of performing companies since the age of 13. Her favourite shows that she has choreographed include We Will Rock You, My Fair Lady, Honk!, Oliver, Legally Blonde and the Bakewell Bake Off (2018- HMOS)

Kelly is delighted to be working with such talented students. She dedicates her performance to her nan Eileen who was last on the stage with her in 2000.

Good luck to all the students - and keep smiling!

Claire Newton. BA (Hons), PGCE, QTS, LIDTA, Dance Ex Dip.

Claire started dancing at St Oswald’s Hall at the age of three, and has since studied all genres of dance, including both theatre and ballroom branches. She has many qualifications in dance including an Honours degree from University of Surrey and Post Graduate Certificate of Education completed at the Royal Academy of Dance, as well as qualifications in teaching through the IDTA.

She has been teaching at NCAD for many, many years in a variety of roles but now solely for Musical Theatre alongside teaching at Greenshaw High School. Claire has choreographed and danced for several amateur dramatic companies including YouTheatre pantomimes with lots of NCAD faces. She has organised and directed the NCAD Summer School for the past twelve years with Miss Stephanie and Miss Hayley, and is looking forward to this year’s Oliver! (still a few places up for grabs as we go to press!). Claire wants to thank the students for their continued hard work and can’t wait to share the stage with her NCAD family and friends.

Claire wishes to congratulate Miss Sarah on 25 years of NCAD – it is truly a special school that has had such an impact on my life in so many ways! Long may it continue to nurture passion for dance and create lifelong friendships.

Break a Leg everyone!

Lisa Pelluet LIDTA, Dance Ex Dip.

Lisa continued to dance and assist, gained dance teaching qualifications and became an NCAD teacher.

After leaving school Lisa formed a performing arts company called "Free Dimensions" and was involved in teaching dance workshops, choreographing and producing several musicals, taking drama and dance into schools and leading assemblies.
